UNC Snaps Losing Streak in Win Over Georgia Tech

Chapel Hill, NC – On Saturday, December 10th, the UNC Tar Heels (5-4, 0-1) hosted Georgia Tech (6-3, 0-0) at the Dean Smith Center which pulled out a win of 75-59, breaking their four-game losing run.

After defeats to Iowa State, Alabama, Indiana, and Virginia Tech, UNC, which entered the season rated No. 1, has dropped out of the AP Top 25. Armando Bacot, a preseason All-American for the Tar Heels, missed the game against the Hokies because of a right shoulder injury but was able to participate in the matchup against the Yellow Jackets.

While both teams were making consistent plays in the first quarter, the Tar Heels’ occasional turnover errors prevented them from taking the lead and kept the game tied between Carolina and Georgia Tech.

Up until Carolina embarked on an 11-0 run to conclude the half, the Tar Heels and Yellow Jackets were maintaining a fairly close game. By the conclusion of the quarter, RJ Davis and Armando Bacot had already scored double figures. Bacot had 10 points and 6 rebounds towards the end of the quarter with the help of Davis who finished with 13 points and 6 rebounds.

Coming out of the half, Love seemed to have woken up after a slow first half, beginning the 3rd quarter with more self-composure and playing aggressive defense for his team. Love was able to knock down the 3 and make his way to the free throw line contributing to the team win with 10 points. Nance, coming of the bench, was able to play a part for his team rounding up 5 rebounds and 11 points to end the game.

Georgia Tech’s effort declined in the 3rd quarter being down by almost 20 points. They struggled on the defensive end not being able to stop UNC’s transition scoring and fast break plays. Key players for the Yellow Jackets were Kelley and Moore who scored 30 points combined for their team.

Davis and Bacot played consistently aggressive basketball that helped their team win. At the conclusion of the game, Davis had 22 points and 10 rebounds and went 9 for 15 from behind the arc, while Bacot finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Join the Tar Heels to see if they can turn around their record in their game against The Citadel Bulldogs on December 13th back at the Dean Smith Stadium at 6 PM.
