UCLA Ends NCCU Football Win Streak in LA

Los Angeles – The North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Eagles lost a tough game on the road to the University of California – Los Ángeles (UCLA) 59-7 in the historic Rose Bowl Stadium.

A first-time matchup against the University of California, Los Angeles Bruins in history, Head Coach Trei Oliver expressed this game was scheduled to have an opportunity to play against an FBS team targeting scouts and demonstrating the power and skills the Eagles produce.

In the first few drives of the game, a 59-yard punt allowed the Bruins to return 27 yards to the 33-yard line. With the Eagles’ defense in play, there was some commotion as they were unable to hold in the first few minutes of the game which set off a touchdown for UCLA.

The Eagles could not initiate a passing game as the Bruins’ defense had a plan to hold them down.

Eagles Quarterback, Davius Richard was able to produce some short passes to have an outcome for the first, first down of the game, finding the open pocket, he completed an 11-yard rush.

During Halftime, 45-0, the Eagles were looking to spring a comeback. The offense threw for 100 yards with 52 rushing yards. Defensively the Eagles tried to stay on their toes with 29 tackles, Latrell Collier contributing with the lead.

Richard is out of the game with a leg injury that could set the tone for the rest of the football season for the Eagles. Quarterback switched out for Walker Harris who completed 12 out of 19 tosses for 114 passing yards.

They finished the game with a 1-yard touchdown executed by running back, Chris Mosley. Collier led rushing with 14 carries for 48 yards and J’Mari Taylor with 11 carries for 23 yards.

The UCLA Bruins showed they could hold possession of this game defending their home turf on both sides of the ball.

Coach Oliver talked about the goals of executing this game.

“We wanted to win a football game, we wanted to play better than we played last week, and then lastly we wanted to play better throughout the game.” Coach Oliver stated. “Our guys did not give up.”

NCCU (2-1) is back in action next week as they travel to Indianapolis to face Mississippi Valley State as part of the Circle City Classic at Lucas Oil Stadium.
