Man Shot During July 4th Gathering in Hillsborough; Police Seek Public’s Help

HILLSBOROUGH, NC — A 33-year-old man was shot in the leg early Friday morning during a July 4th celebration in northern Hillsborough, prompting an active investigation by the Hillsborough Police Department.

Shooting Reported Around 1:00 a.m.

Officers responded just before 1:00 a.m. on July 5 to the 500 block of Riddle Avenue, where a celebration was underway with about 25 people gathered. Inside a nearby home, police discovered the injured man, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.

The victim was transported to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill for treatment. Authorities say the injury is believed to be non-life-threatening, but his current condition remains unknown.

Verbal Altercation May Have Preceded Gunfire

According to police, the incident appears to have followed a verbal dispute between the victim and another individual. The shooter has not yet been identified, and investigators are working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the violence.
