Tubi Premieres AMC Studios’ Sci-Fi Comedy DEMASCUS Starring Janet Hubert & Martin Lawrence

LOS ANGELES, CA — Tubi, Fox Corporation’s free, ad-supported streaming service, has teamed up with AMC Networks to launch Demascus as a Tubi Original, bringing viewers a fresh six-episode blend of comedy, science fiction, and social commentary. The limited series, created by acclaimed playwright Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm and produced by AMC Studios, premiered Thursday, August 7, exclusively on Tubi.

The series stars Okieriete Onaodowan (Station 19) as Demascus, alongside an impressive ensemble including Janet Hubert (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), Caleb Eberhardt (Judas and the Black Messiah), Shakira Ja’nai Paye (Single Drunk Female), and Martin Lawrence in a recurring role.

A Genre-Bending Story with Heart and Humor

Demascus follows its title character—a Black man embarking on a deeply personal journey of self-discovery—through the use of experimental, reality-bending technology. The result is a comedic yet thought-provoking exploration of identity, masculinity, and the diverse perspectives within the Black male experience.

Executive producer Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) praised Chisholm’s work: “Through Demascus, Tearrance Chisholm asks one of life’s simplest questions: What does it take to be a good man?—and answers it with surprising and nuanced revelations.”

Creative Team and Production

The series is executive produced by Mark Johnson and Myki Bajaj of Gran Via Productions, with Kirk A. Moore (American Crime, For Life) and Chisholm serving as co-showrunners. The deal to bring Demascus to Tubi was brokered by Benin Mtume from Tubi’s Content Acquisition and Partnerships team alongside Mark Dee-Shapland, AMC Networks’ Senior Vice President of Global Content Sales.
