TRAILER WATCH: Mahershala Ali Balances Fatherhood, Faith and Danger in ‘Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother’

Two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali steps into the role of a grieving father — who also happens to be a religious hitman — in the new action drama Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother.

Written and directed by BAFTA Award nominee Bassam Tariq, the film follows Latif (Ali), a widower struggling to hold his family together following the death of his wife. As he travels across Houston trying to protect his children, Latif must confront enemies closing in around him while wrestling with his faith, grief and what it means to be the father his children need.

While the film delivers sword fights, hand-to-hand combat and bursts of violence, Tariq built the story around something much more intimate: fatherhood. The filmmaker says his own experience as a young father helped inspire a story that eventually grew to explore faith, masculinity, violence, community and responsibility.

The cast also includes John Cho, Abubakr Ali, Laith Nakli, Tramell Tillman, Tiffany Boone and Giancarlo Esposito, along with Adia and Jahleel Kamara.

When Can You See It?

Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother opens in select theaters September 25, followed by a wider theatrical release on October 9. The R-rated film runs 1 hour and 51 minutes.
