A nighttime encounter in a northeast Raleigh neighborhood ended in gunfire, a vehicle crash, and the death of an 18-year-old. Now, two other teenagers face criminal charges, and prosecutors have made a significant decision about the person who fired back.

RALEIGH, NC – A planned armed robbery in northeast Raleigh ended with one 18-year-old dead and two other teenagers facing criminal charges after a confrontation involving gunfire and a vehicle crash, according to the Raleigh Police Department (RPD).

Investigators say Christopher Peart, 18, was killed Monday night during an attempted robbery in a mobile home community in the 4300 block of Foxhound Road. His twin brother, Christian Peart, 18, and another teenager, Chase Ince, 18, have since been arrested in connection with the alleged robbery plot.

Police Describe Robbery Plot That Turned Deadly

According to investigators, the Peart brothers arranged to meet an individual with the intention of robbing him.

During the encounter, police say the intended victim attempted to escape in his vehicle as shots were fired in his direction.

The driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle and crashed. After exiting the damaged car, investigators say he returned fire before leaving the area.

When officers arrived, they discovered Christopher Peart dead at the scene. Christian Peart was also present but had not been injured.

Investigators located the crashed vehicle, which had shattered glass on the driver’s side window and front windshield.

Police deployed K-9 units and drones while searching the surrounding neighborhood. More than a dozen evidence markers were placed along the roadway as investigators processed the scene.

Investigation Leads to Two Arrests

As detectives reconstructed the events, they determined that the encounter was allegedly part of a coordinated robbery attempt.

Investigators identified Chase Ince, 18, as the individual accused of helping coordinate the planned robbery.

On Wednesday, police arrested Christian Peart and charged him with:

  • Attempted robbery with a deadly weapon
  • Conspiracy to commit robbery with a deadly weapon
  • Discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle

Ince was also arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit robbery with a deadly weapon.

Both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Robbery Victim Will Not Face Charges in Teen’s Death

The Wake County District Attorney’s Office has declined to pursue criminal charges against the intended robbery victim in connection with Christopher Peart’s death.

Raleigh police confirmed that the individual has cooperated with investigators throughout the investigation.

Authorities have not released additional details about the evidence supporting the decision not to file charges.
