Eagles Soar in Second Home Game
DURHAM, NC – North Carolina Central University secured its second win of the season at home against their first Division-I opponent Southern University, 80-67 at McDougald-McLendon Arena on Sunday, November 19.
NCCU (2-3) broke a narrow four-point lead of 40-36 over Southern (0-4) in the second half in a 24-7 run enabling them to gain the double-digit advantage in the second half with 13:25 on the clock. The Eagles never wavered from the lead.
Raasean Davis (Chicago, Ill.) continued to be a driving force for the Eagles, by landing his second consecutive double-double. Davis concluded the contest with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Point guard C.J. Wiggins (Richmond, Va.) also shined in the arena again after a solid performance against Warren Wilson, scoring 14 points with three assists in this contest.
The freshmen guards radiated confidence facing the Jaguars with career-high points. Jordan Perkins (Greensboro, N.C.) scored 17 points for the Eagles, and Reggie Gardner, Jr. (Bowie, Md.) trailed closely with 16 points.
Southern knocked down seven three-pointers in the second half in an attempt to catch the Eagles, but NCCU prevailed on its way to a 80-67 final. Jamar Sandifer (Dallas, Texas) totaled 16 points, and seven rebounds. Eddie Reese (Detroit, Mich.) had 13 points and five rebounds.
The Eagles will be traveling to Huntington, West Virginia for their next game against Marshall University on Wednesday, November 22.
