NCCU’s Houser Wins Rookie of the Week

Forward Erin Houser was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week on Monday, Nov. 21 after posting a breakout performance against Johnson & Wales University. Houser scored a game-high 19 points in leading the Lady Eagles to a 75-38 lopsided win over the Wildcats on Friday. The 37-point victory was the largest by NCCU in the program’s NCAA Division I era (since 2007-08).

The Orangeburg, South Carolina, product shot 53.3-percent from the floor (8 of 15) on her way to her career-high 19-point performance. Houser averaged over a point a minute in scoring her 19 points in just 18 minutes of action. Houser scored 25 total points on the week, first scoring six points on a pair of 3-pointers in a road game at Coastal Carolina University on Tuesday. For the week, Houser provided the Lady Eagles with averages of 12.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.

Houser becomes the first NCCU women’s basketball player to earn MEAC Rookie of the Week laurels since both Amber Neely and Tisha Dixon were selected twice in the 2011-12 season.

NCCU (1-2) next plays at Campbell University on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.
