Let’s get to know more about Lauren and Delux Catering:

Gillian Shaw (GS): When and why did you start your business? Where is your business based? What was your motivation? How did you come up with the name?

Lauren Hagans: I started my business in January 2016 in Durham, NC. My main reason for starting my own company was, I got tired of cooking in other people’s establishments and not getting the recognition, money, or creative freedom I wanted. Delux Catering Co. is based out of Atlanta, Georgia. The motivation to start cooking was I knew I deserved more and nobody else can do that for me. I really just sat and brainstormed for hours until I came up with some catchy, then it researched on Google.

cookingGS: How did you prepare to run your business?

Lauren Hagans: I took a few certification classes and did a lot of research. I began by getting pictures and marketing tools in place so I could gain clientele and get my name out there.

GS: Who are your personal and/or business influences?

Lauren Hagans: My first influence would have to be my mom.  I learned everything I know from her. She’s one of the best cooks I know. I also love Darius Cooks, Chef Baul, and Papi Cuisine. Also, any and everybody on the Food Network show “Chopped.”  My experience and time learning from others have helped gain clientele now. I’ve learned a lot and It’s grown so much.

GS: Tell us about a recent event you’ve catered.

Lauren Hagans: Recently in the past year, I catered her first wedding and biggest event to date. It was phenomenal! The bride was so pleased, everything just came out perfect! I would love to cater more weddings. They’re just so personal, and I love having that connection with my clients.

GS: Do you have any upcoming events or shows? What are your next steps?

Lauren Hagans: The next few events that are upcoming are a best friend’s baby shower this summer and a 50th birthday party is on the books for this summer as well. Hopefully, this pandemic doesn’t stop those from happening. I will just keep working on my business behind the scenes. I am currently working on a cookbook, my YouTube channel, and a spice line that will be coming out soon.

“I want any and everyone in my life to know that you can literally do whatever you want and you don’t have to follow the typical society rules to do it,” says Hagans.
