Lawrence and Artelia Perry Scholarship Fund Names 2020 Scholarship Awardees

Durham, NC – The Lawrence and Artelia Perry Scholarship Fund has awarded $14,000 in scholarships to seven Durham students as part of its 2020 recognition program. The Lawrence & Artelia Perry Scholarship Fund (L&APSF), an IRS 501(c) (3) public charity, was established in 2011 to provide annual support for meritorious, needy students who are graduates of Durham Public Schools. Students may be currently enrolled in one of the three supported colleges or university or a high school graduate who will attend Bennett College, Livingstone College, or North Carolina Central University.  The Scholarship Fund Board has given over $100,000 in scholarships to students at the three institutions since its founding.

The 2020 Perry Scholarship Fund Awardees are:  

NCCU students:

Uniqua Harris – freshman accounting major; 

Jordan Lee – freshman political science major;

Mikha’el McCormick – freshman visual communications major and;

Derrick Stanfield – junior history and political science major.

Livingstone College students:

Joshua Alston – freshman education major and;

Alexia Crutchfield – sophomore criminal justice and social work major.

fundProceeds from annual luncheons, corporation sponsorships, direct donations, and sales of the book Artelia: Portrait of an African American Matriarch are the primary scholarship fundraising methods.   Dr. Dwight Perry serves as the Board Chair and Dr. Tara Fikes is the Scholarship Committee Chair.
