Seven-Run Inning Powers Duke Past NC Central

DURHAM, NC – A seven-run inning powered Duke past NC Central,12-7, on Tuesday evening for a mid-week matchup at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

The Eagles finished the matchup with seven runs, seven hits, one home run, and six RBI’s. Central played a game of trial and error against the Blue Devils as eleven pitchers took the mound, with twelve total strikeouts.

The loss was pinned on pitcher Chris Krennrich, who started on the bump for the Eagles. Pitching 0.2 innings, with two hits allowed, one run allowed, one earned run, and four strikeouts.

Duke struck out a total of 18 hitters, reaching their program-record achieved earlier in the season.

Duke scored two runs in the first two innings of the matchup. The first came from Senior Joey Loperfido, finishing the night leading the team with 24 runs, and 26 total hits. The second score of the night transpired in the bottom of the second. Rudy Maxwell scored off an RBI double from RJ Shreck.

Central came back immediately in the top of the next frame as Jacob Raby scored off an error made by pitcher Luke Fox. Fox finished leading the Devils with six total strikeouts on the mound.

The Eagles collected a majority of their runs in the sixth inning when Duke decided to bring in lefty Matt Dockman. Patrick Doran was walked with the bases loaded allowing Chet Sikes to score. Cameron Norgen singled to third base, advancing all hitters, taking Kokko Figueiredo home to score. Justin Bowers was then hit by a pitch advancing all base men once again bringing home Tristan Shea. Giving the eagles a total of four runs in the frame; the most in the matchup.

The game picked up immensely as Duke scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, one in the fifth, and two in the bottom of the seventh. Creating a total of twelve runs for the Blue Devils’, with a final score of 12-6.

The Devils’ will take the field again Friday, April 9th, to start the weekend series are Boshamner Stadium against the Tar Heels at 6 PM. North Carolina Central will take the field Friday as well, beginning their weekend series against the North Carolina A&T Aggies. The first pitch for the Eagles will be at 4 PM and can be accessed by viewers on the NCCU Sports Network.
