Trailer: THE HITMAN’S WIFE’S BODYGUARD Stars Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Salma Hayek

Lionsgate has released the trailer for The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, the action comedy that returns the team of Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Salma Hayek, director Patrick Hugues and screenwriter Tom O’Conner for a second go-round after 2017’s successful The Hitman’s Bodyguard. (Check out the trailer below.)

Like others delayed by the pandemic, the movie now is prepping for its U.S. theatrical release, set for June 16, 2021. It most recently had been set to hit screens August 20, 2020, but moved after another Reynolds movie, 20th Century Studios’ own oft-delayed Free Guy, shifted its date to August 13.

The Lionsgate and Millennium Media sequel picks up after the events of the first movie. The world’s most lethal odd couple – bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) and hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) – are back on another life-threatening mission. Still unlicensed and under scrutiny, Bryce is forced into action by Darius’s even more volatile wife, the infamous international con artist Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek). As Bryce is driven over the edge by his two most dangerous protectees, the trio gets in over their heads in a global plot and soon finds that they are all that stands between Europe and a vengeful and powerful madman (Antonio Banderas).   Joining in the fun and deadly mayhem is Morgan Freeman as…well, you’ll have to see.

Frank Grillo, Caroline Goodall, Rebecca Front, Gabriella Wright, Alice McMillan, Kristofer Kamiyasu, Tom Hopper, Blake Ritson, and Richard E. Grant also star in the movie, penned by O’Conner and Phillip Murphy & Brandon Murphy.

Matthew O’Toole, Les Weldon, and Yariv Lerner are producers of the movie, a Millennium Media/Nu Boyana Film Studios production, in association with Campbell Grobman Films, and in association with Film i Vâst and Filmgate Films.
