Winston-Salem State University had their elegant coronation ceremony on October 20, 2021, in the Kenneth R Williams Auditorium. Miss Hannah Joy Farmer was crowned the 82nd Miss Winston-Salem State University 2021-2022 and Mister Jadavion Zykei King is the 47th Mister Winston-Salem State University 2021-2022. 

The Mistress and Master of Ceremony were Ms. Quieysha McDougle who was Miss Winston-Salem State University 2020-2021 and Mr. Kendrick Pittman, the 2020-2021 Mister Winston-Salem State University.

Hannah Joy Farmer

Miss Hannah Joy Farmer is a senior majoring in Elementary Education with an emphasis in math, science, and technology. She is from Fayetteville, North Carolina. Hannah has a keen interest in serving others. She serves and volunteers in many organizations. 

She also serves as an officer with the Gamma Lambda Chapter. Hannah’s platform is, “Finish What You Started,” where she seeks to encourage others to never give up on their goals. She is an example of approaching adversities with grace. Farmer also wants to normalize the need for mental health support through her forum, “Let’s Talk About It.” After graduation, Hannah will start her career in the education system and she aspires to attain both her Masters and Ph.D. degrees.

Next, there was Mister Jadavian Zykei King who is a senior majoring in healthcare management. Mister King is from Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

He has served in various leadership roles and was initiated into the Beta Iota Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

His drive is to lead by purpose and to serve others. King enjoys singing, traveling, and cooking. Following graduation, he plans to enter the workforce while pursuing his master’s degree in healthcare administration. 

Miss and Mister Alumni

Winston-Salem State University gave an opportunity for two former graduates to run for Miss and Mister Alumni. The candidates recognized were, Ms. Donna Montgomery class of 2007, and Mr. Jimmy Hester class of 1990. Ms. Montgomery and Mr. Hester both have been working in mental health for many years and continue to make an impact in their community and for Winston-Salem State University. 

The Royal Court 

The entrance by the Royal Court was a great way to recognize these kings and queens in a luxurious and unforgettable way.

Also, apart of The Royal Court was Miss 1892 2021-2022, Aleah Johnson who is a senior interdisciplinary studies major from Charlotte, North Carolina. Johnson is the co-founder of L.E.A.D (Learn Empower Advocate Dedicate.) She has a drive and passion for serving the community because she believes it will impact someone or make a change in the world. Following graduation, she plans to attend graduate school to achieve her dream of becoming a lawyer, professional actress, and model. 

Miss Red and White 2021-2022, Jailyn Manuel is a senior biology major from Fayetteville, North Carolina. Manuel is the co-captain of the White Red Team Cheerleaders. She believes that her service is far greater than any individual accomplishment she has ever received. Her work ethic and selflessness are reflected in her leadership. After graduation, she plans to join the United States Military and pursue her doctorate in Pharmacy.

Mister Red and White 2021-2022Dominique Graves, a senior mass communication major is from Gibsonville, North Carolina. He has served in many organizations including Vice President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Open House tour guide, Legacy Leader, and more. Graves values serving others with the determination of making an impact in someone’s life. He treasures the art of photography and the time he spends with family and friends. After graduation, Dominique plans to expand his photography business and hopes to work for the NFL or ESPN as a multimedia producer. 

Zamiri Gillis also known as Mister 1892 2021-2022, is a senior exercise science major from Kinston, North Carolina. Gillis serves in a plethora of capacities on campus including the Army ROTC program, Ram Fest committee, SU Media Productions, and so much more. Zamiri is enthusiastic about serving others and desires to make a difference. Following graduation, Gillis will be commissioned into the United States Army as a 2ND Lieutenant Officer and plans to attend Physical Therapy School. 

All thanks to God, Family, and Friends 

“All things are possible, with God,” says Mister Jadavian King. Through the campaigning, tears shed, many thanks to God and family, and with laughter and love in the air, Winston-Salem State University will continue to make its mark and continue their traditions. They have transformed their students’ lives into committed and strong leaders that are willing and ready to serve. 

We say congratulations to Miss Farmer, Mister King, and those who were on the royal court on being recognized at tonight’s coronation. This coronation showed the elegant part that Winston-Salem State University has to offer. There are more events at Winston-Salem State University this week that will lead up to their big homecoming game. This Friday at 6:30 pm, there will be a Step Show that you do not want to miss.
