WSSU Defeat Livingstone At Homecoming, Keeps Winning Streak Alive

The WSSU Rams defeated the Livingstone College Blue Bears in its homecoming game 21-0 in shutout fashion Saturday.

The Rams opened the scoring on their opening drive of the game when Junior Quarterback Cam Lewis connected with Graduate student wide receiver Alex Cabrera on a 30-yard scoring strike for the first of his three touchdowns on the day.

Cabrera led the way for WSSU offensively after tallying three catches for 88 yards adding another touchdown in the second quarter outrunning the Blue Bear defense on a 50-yard catch and run score.

Freshman Wide Receiver Antjuan Collins also added a touchdown with 20 seconds remaining in the half on a play that looked dead after Lewis eluded multiple Blue Bear defenders and somehow escaped out of the pocket and found Collins on a 20-yard pass on the run in the corner of the end zone.

The Blue Bears were unable to get anything going offensively after totaling just 90 yards of total offense and converting just five third downs, stalling multiple drives.

Throughout the contest, the Rams passing attack seemed to be just too much for the Blue Bears defense getting beat all over the field having no answer whatsoever.

Senior Cornerback Elijah Banks tallied an interception after picking off Blue Bears Quarterback Miles Hayes midway through the 1st quarter and providing his veteran leadership throughout the contest and not allowing the Blue Bear receivers to get open.

Hayes struggled to find open receivers completing just four of his 14 passing attempts.

WSSU set the tone of the game early establishing a lead that was too much for the Bears to overcome, unable to execute in most of their drives.

With the win, the Rams move to (3-4) on the season and (3-2) in CIAA play. They look to keep their winning streak alive and look to make it four straight when they travel to Shaw University next Saturday for a 1:00 PM tilt.
