CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Former NFL player and Super Bowl champion Bashaud Breeland was arrested Tuesday (Aug. 8) in North Carolina on multiple charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle, stolen firearms, and drugs.

Breeland, 31, was subjected to a traffic stop by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers at a Circle K in Charlotte. During the stop, officers found Breeland in possession of a stolen Mercedez-Benz SUV, eight guns — including two AR-15s and two AK-47s — more than five pounds of cannabis, and 62 grams of suspected illegal mushrooms, according to a police report.

Breeland was arrested on eight charges, including possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, altering a title and altering serial numbers, according to WBTV in North Carolina.

The South Carolina native was jailed just after 2 a.m. Tuesday, according to reports. He was released a few hours later after posting a $30,000 bond.

Breeland played eight seasons in the NFL from 2014 to 2021, winning a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020. The former Clemson standout was drafted by the Washington Commanders in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons in Washington before also playing for the Green Bay Packers in 2018, Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 and 2020, and Minnesota Vikings in 2021.

In August 2020 while with the Chiefs, Breeland was suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

In March 2018, following his four years in Washington, Breeland agreed to a $24 million, three-year contract with the Carolina Panthers, but the deal was nullified due to his failed physical from a non-football injury. He never played for Carolina. He signed with the Packers later that year in September.

He has not played in the NFL since 2021 when he was with the Minnesota Vikings. He remains a free agent.

Across his eight seasons in the league, Breeland recorded 439 tackles and 16 interceptions.
