Durham, NC — Black Farmers Market (BFM) is thrilled to announce the commencement of its fifth season, promising a delightful fusion of culture, community, and commerce. The season kicks off on April 21, 2024, at Durham Technical Community College, marking the beginning of a series of weekly markets that will run every Sunday until November.

“At Black Farmers Market, we’re not just about providing nourishment for the body; we’re nourishing the soul of our communities,” says Ja’Nell Henry, BFM’s Director of Operations and Strategic Partnerships. “Our markets are more than just places to shop; they’re vibrant hubs of culture and connection.”

Visitors can expect the same lively atmosphere that has become synonymous with BFM, featuring soulful tunes and a diverse array of fresh produce. The market’s essence remains unchanged – celebrating Black culture, resilience, and entrepreneurship.

This season, BFM will collaborate with esteemed partners, including SE Raleigh YMCA, Durham Tech, Fertile Ground, the Museum of Life and Science, and the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC. Their unwavering support has fueled BFM’s mission to empower Black farmers and artisans while fostering community well-being.

The market opens at 1 pm and concludes at 4 pm, with activities for all ages, including face painting, a bounce house, and music. Additionally, attendees can explore new BFM merchandise while indulging in culinary delights and discovering unique treasures from local vendors.

“We invite everyone to join us in celebrating the rich tapestry of Black farming heritage,” adds Henry. “Our markets are inclusive spaces where all are welcome, reflecting the diversity and resilience of our communities.”

BFM accepts SNAP benefits, reaffirming its commitment to making healthy, locally sourced food accessible to all. Representatives from the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC will be on-site at select markets to assist eligible individuals in signing up for SNAP benefits.
