Shaw University Set For ‘Epic’ Homecoming Week Oct. 21 – 28

Raleigh, NC – Shaw University is planning “The Epic Experience” when it celebrates 153 years of educating students during its 2018 Homecoming Week, Oct. 21 – Oct. 28. A week full of activities are planned that will bring back fond memories while creating new ones to last a lifetime. (full schedule below)

Homecoming will include an evening of philanthropy during the 2018 EPIC Gala on Friday, October 26 at the Raleigh Marriott City Center in Downtown Raleigh. This year’s gala will feature Grammy Award & Tony Award winner, Ms. Jennifer Holliday.

This black-tie event supports Shaw University students and helps provide necessary financial support for the Presidential Scholarship Fund.  The goal this year is to raise $575,000.

The week kicks off with the Homecoming Gospel Concert featuring Maranda Curtis and Chris Crowder on Oct. 20 in the C. C. Spaulding Gymnasium. Miss Shaw University coronation takes place on Oct. 21. Rounding out the week’s activities for students are a DJ Battle, Talent Show, Fashion Show, Day Party, Midnight Breakfast, Step Show.

Founder’s Day Memorial Service is in the Tupper Memorial Garden at 10:00 am on Oct. 26 followed by Founder’s Day Convocation in the Duke Energy Center at 11:00 am.

The Shaw University Bears will face the Winston Salem State University Rams at noon for the Homecoming Game on Saturday Oct. 27 at Durham County Stadium (Durham). The Willie E. Gary and Lorenzo Williams Homecoming Brunch precedes the game at 9:00 am at the Sheraton Capital Center Hotel, downtown Raleigh.
