Hinton, Shaw Dominate Livingstone College 96-61

RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University men’s basketball team lit up C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium from behind the arc as the Bears toppled the visiting Blue Bears of Livingstone College, 96-61 in front of 800 plus fans Monday night in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division contest.

 

Junior Amir Hinton (Philadelphia, PA) recorded a game-high 28 points while junior DaVaughn Kelsie (Richmond, VA) chipped in 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from behind the arc as junior Davon Dillard (Gary, IN) tallied 13 points and eight rebounds and sophomore Alex Owens (Brandenton, FL) finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

 

Junior Derrick Randolph (Chicago, IL) dished out nine assists, eight points and five rebounds in the winning for Shaw.

 

The win puts Shaw at 9-10 overall and 4-6 in CIAA play while Livingstone falls to 12-7 on the season and 5-5 in league action. In Southern Division standings, the Bears are now 3-2 while LC is 3-1.

 

Shaw held a 31-28 lead after first half but opened the flood gates with raining 3-pointers in the second, connecting 10-of-13 from long distance as the Bears accounted for 22-of-33 (66.7-percent) from the field compared to LC who shot 39.3-percent (11-28) and 0-4 from the 3-point line.

 

Roger Ray scored 24 points to lead the Blue Bears in scoring.

 

Shaw will return to action Wednesday, Jan. 30 with a home contest against Fayetteville State at 8 p.m. in Spaulding.
