NCCU Alumni Reggie McCrimmon To Launch 2020’s Rock The Lyceum Lecture Series
Durham, NC – Reginald A. McCrimmon will kick off North Carolina Central University’s 2020-21 Rock the Lyceum lecture series as the featured speaker at 7 pm on Thursday, September 17. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place virtually on Webex. McCrimmon is a graduate of North Carolina Central University, where he served two terms as Student Body President. He is also a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
McCrimmon is a member of the Public Policy Team at Twitter. Based in Washington, D.C., he develops and implements Twitter’s interest in the open internet, workforce diversity and inclusion, online harassment and abuse, intermediary liability, and civic integrity.
McCrimmon’s professional career in the public, private, and non-profit sectors include experience on Capitol Hill as the Director of Member Services and External Affairs for the Congressional Black Caucus. McCrimmon has served his home state of North Carolina under Congressman G.K. Butterfield, Governor Bev Perdue, and U.S. Senator Kay Hagan. While serving in Congress, McCrimmon was elected as the President of the Congressional Black Associates, a bicameral and bipartisan staff association committed to the professional advancement of African American staffers on Capitol Hill.
Upon leaving Congress, McCrimmon began his journey as a social entrepreneur, advising start-ups and the broader business community on corporate responsibility strategies to improve community development and inclusive innovation. McCrimmon has consulted on media, entertainment, and tech projects as a Senior Advisor to Angela Rye and Managing Director at IMPACT Strategies. He has also worked in outreach, and external affairs for Self Help Credit Union’s national non-profit for consumer financial protection, the Center for Responsible Lending.
The Rock the Lyceum lecture series is hosted by NCCU’s Office of Student Engagement and Leadership, along with the Lyceum Committee. The series brings in several of the nation’s top entrepreneurs and thought-leaders to engage students in relevant topics in education, entertainment, politics, and social justice. Past speakers include Angela Rye, T.I., Michael Vick, Keke Palmer, and Phylicia Rashad. This year, the series plans to focus on social justice issues.
