Ndongo’s Career Day Fuels GT Upset Over Duke

ATLANTA, GA – Georgia Tech guard Baye Ndongo scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Yellow Jackets to an 72-68 upset of the 7th ranked Duke Blue Devils on Saturday afternoon in McCamish Pavilion.

The Yellow Jackets (4-2, 1-0 ACC) started the game hot on a 12-2 run to take control of the game.

Duke guard Tyrese Proctor (left leg) left the game within the first two minutes of the game after landing on a foot coming down from a layup attempt. He returned to the bench on crutches and his ankle with a significant amount of ice and did not return to game action.

Duke (5-3, 0-1 ACC) would fight back and tie the game up throughout the game. Duke made a significant 7-0 run with eight minutes remaining in the second half to cut their deficit back down to 3 at 58-55.

After Duke center Kyle Filipowski hit two clutch free throws to tie the game up at 60, the Blue Devils used an 6-2 run powered by two highlight reel poster dunks from forward Mark Mitchell to take a 66-62 lead with 2 minutes remaining.

However, Mark Mitchell was hit with a technical foul for pointing at the defender in a Shawn Kemp-like manner after the second poster Dunk.

GT would use those free throws and a pair of Nate George to Ndongo alley-oops to fuel an 8-2 run to seal the upset 72–68.

Duke was led by guard Jeremy Roach who finished the game with 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two turnovers. Filipowski had 12 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Mitchell chipped in eleven points and four rebounds off the bench.

Georgia Tech guard Baye Ndongo finished with a career-high 21 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists, and four blocks. Guard Miles Kelly added 16 points and seven rebounds. Guard Kowacie Reeves ended with 14 points on 4-5 shooting from behind the arc.

This was the first Georgia Tech win against a top-10 ranked team since 2020 against No. 5 Louisville.
