Tyler Perry’s ‘Miss Governor’ Returns: Terri J. Vaughn Steps Into Her Power in Part 2
Netflix’s hit political comedy returns August 14 with bold moves, big laughs, and brand-new episodes
Tyler Perry is back with the second installment of his first-ever comedy series for Netflix — and this time, it has a new name. Formerly known as She The People, the rebranded Miss Governor returns with Part 2, continuing the hilarious and heartfelt journey of Lieutenant Governor Antoinette Dunkerson, played by Terri J. Vaughn.
The Trailer Drops, The Name Changes, And The Stakes Rise
Fans got a surprise at Essence Festival when star Terri J. Vaughn revealed the new title and trailer for Miss Governor Part 2. In the trailer, Antoinette isn’t just surviving the backstabbing world of Mississippi politics — she’s dominating it. From challenging the condescending governor to managing family chaos under public scrutiny, Antoinette stands firm, speaks up, and refuses to be silenced.
What Is Miss Governor About?
In Season 1, Antoinette Dunkerson won her race for Lieutenant Governor — only to realize that the political halls of Mississippi are filled with power plays and patronizing men. Now, she’s finally reclaiming her agency, making bold moves, and showing the state what real leadership looks like.
How Part 1 Ended (Spoiler Alert!)
Season 1 closed with Antoinette pushing back hard. She fired shots (figuratively) at a corrupt pipeline initiative, considered forming her own staff, and publicly stood up to Governor Harper — all while juggling the pressures of family life. After a dramatic confrontation, a group of staffers rush into the governor’s office, calling for medical help. What happens next? We’ll find out on August 14.

Behind the Scenes: Political Insight Meets Creative Firepower

What to Expect in Part 2
Perry promises more comedy, more chaos, and more character growth. “To see [Antoinette] find her voice after the relentless taunting of her mother and her children and her friends… it was good for me to see. I enjoyed it,” he told Tudum. And with a medical emergency shaking the halls of power, Part 2 promises even higher stakes.
