From a Space Disaster to an Underwater Nightmare
In Above the Below, three astronauts survive a catastrophic incident in space, but their emergency return to Earth creates another life-threatening crisis.
Their spacecraft crash-lands in the ocean, leaving the crew trapped deep underwater with no communication with mission control.
As their oxygen supply rapidly diminishes, the astronauts must find a way to survive an environment where every breath matters.
The situation becomes increasingly desperate as the crew faces mounting dangers and difficult decisions that could determine who lives and who dies.
Rather than focusing solely on the dangers of space exploration, the film combines the isolation of a space mission with the claustrophobic terror of being trapped beneath the ocean.
Idris Elba Takes on Dual Roles
Elba, known for his commanding performances in action films and dramatic roles, serves as both a leading actor and co-director.
Working alongside Martin Owen, he helps bring to the screen a story centered on survival, human endurance and the choices people make under extraordinary pressure.
Caitlin FitzGerald and Hero Fiennes Tiffin round out the principal cast.
The film was written by Elizabeth Morris, Matthew Mitchell and Vicki Sargent, based on a concept created by Owen. Gina Carter and Matt Williams serve as producers.
Lionsgate presents the Future Artists Entertainment production.
A Race Against Time With No Easy Escape
At the heart of Above the Below is a question: How far will people go to survive when their options are disappearing?
The trailer sets up a tense scenario in which the astronauts must rely on one another while confronting the possibility that their mission could end far from any hope of rescue.
For audiences who enjoy survival stories, psychological tension, and science-fiction thrillers, Above the Below offers a different kind of space adventure — one in which the greatest danger awaits after the astronauts return to Earth.
Will the three astronauts find a way back to the surface, or will the ocean become their final destination?
