How Desmond Scott and Prime Fitness Stayed Strong During The Pandemic

DURHAM, NC – Desmond Scott and Prime Athletic Training and Fitness Institute were forced to adapt in order to stay alive during the pandemic of 2020.  Before COVID-19 forced the world to change last year, Prime Fitness was the kind of place that made everyone that entered its doors want to stay and grow together.  Members and staff alike seemed to spend the majority of their time indulging in the community that made the legendary gym such an inviting community.  But, 2020 forced this athletic haven to close its doors in response to a global pandemic.

With the doors closed, members were forced to instead exercise at their homes and miss the community they had discovered in the walls of the gym.  The owner of Prime Athletic Training and Fitness Institute found himself forced to deal with a new set of challenges for his business. However,  Desmond Scott did not become the successful man he is without responding to adversity.

Throughout his life, Desmond Scott, or “Des” as he is known by his friends, has found his way through the struggles of becoming a football player at a major university, he learned how to act out of love from his father, how to always find a way to be helpful by watching his mother, and everyone that has been fortunate enough to call him a friend can rest assured that he would respond to the challenges of 2020 in a manner that would leave the owner with a positive perspective and a sense of success.  When asked how he viewed 2020, Des responds by calling it a year of growth for him and Prime.

In October of 2020, Des married the love of his life, Lauren, and began to step into the role of a husband by prioritizing time with his spouse.  This meant scheduling his day in a manner that allowed him to be a loving husband.  As the doors to the gym were slowly getting closer to re-opening, Des wanted to make sure that everyone in the gym felt safe.

As the numbers of COVID-19 cases rose throughout the country, Prime wanted to maintain their sense of community by ensuring people in the gym did not feel worried about getting sick while they were there.  It was then the decision was made to reopen Prime Athletic Training and Fitness Institute as a 24-hour gym.  Meaning that every member would be able to enter the gym at any time using an access code.  No longer were people forced to cram their workouts in during the hours the gym was open.  Anytime, day or night, a member of the gym is now able to go workout.

As members now enter the gym, they can rest assured that anyone there is a member and can lift with confidence knowing that they can safely return to their gym and feel a sense of family without the worry of the crowds created by the compacted hours of gym hours.  This new strategy also meant that Des and his gym were now one of the few 24-hour gyms in the area, making them more enticing to potential members.

As Des and Prime Athletic Training and Fitness Institute, located at 3738 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd, find themselves emerging from 2020 with a new way to operate their gym, Desmond Scott can rest assured that his adaptability and positive mindset will help to maintain the family feel that has made his gym a jewel of the triangle region.  The year 2020 now stands as a testament to Desmond Scott’s ability to overcome adversity with a growth mindset and preserve the gym that has its members proudly returning to their “gym family”.
