A Two-Run Homer Seals the Series for the Tar Heels
RALEIGH, NC- The NC State Wolfpack (30-15) hosted the North Carolina Tar Heels (27-18) this weekend in a three-game series that started on Friday, May 6.
Despite the weather delays on Saturday, the two were able to face off in a double-header this afternoon with game one starting at 11 A.M and game two at 2:25 P.M.
The Tar Heels solidified the win on Friday night but were swept this afternoon in game one with the Pack coming back to answer with a 9-2 victory.
The Pack’s freshman home run record-breaker, Tommy White, added another dinger to his list in the first inning. White had three hits, two runs, and two RBIs to assist in the nine-run game. Josh Hood was another key contender for NC State’s offense this afternoon. Hood hit a home run in the sixth inning which resulted in two of his three RBIs for the game. The red-shirt junior also finished the game with five at-bat appearances, three hits, and one run.
The last game of the series resulted in a back-and-forth battle between the Pack and the Tar Heels with the game remaining tied until the bottom of the sixth where UNC took over 5-4. The Heels sealed the series in the eighth inning with a home run from Osuna which lead to Holbrook scoring, bringing UNC up 7-6.
Freshman, Vance Honeycutt, added to UNC’s fuel in hopes to win the series. Honeycutt started the game off with a home run in the first inning which gave way to junior, Danny Serretti, running home. This gave Honeycutt one of his three RBIs while earning a double, two hits, and two runs with three at bat appearances throughout the final game.
The Tar Heels take the series 2-1 over the Pack after a weekend full of rain delays and big comebacks at Doak Field.
